Please join Wayne State University's Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES) for their upcoming hybrid seminar on November 30, 2023 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The seminar is free. The seminar will be held in person at the Integrative Biosciences Center located at 6135 Woodward, and also via Zoom. The Zoom information will be emailed to all registrants. 

The guest speaker will be Peter S. Thorne, Ph.D., Distinguished Chair, Professor of Occupational and Environmental Health, and Director of the Human Toxicology Program at the University of Iowa. Dr. Thorne will present, The Nexus of Climate Change, the Built Environment, and Health. 

Biography

Dr. Thorne is University of Iowa Distinguished Chair and Professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health. He is Director of the Interdisciplinary Human Toxicology Program. He runs a productive research laboratory engaging his students in studies of the health effects of climate change, environmental risk factors for lung diseases, the toxicity of engineered nanomaterials, and novel methods for exposure assessment and modeling. Dr. Thorne is recognized for his discoveries on the exacerbation of asthma and other respiratory diseases associated with domestic and occupational exposures to bioaerosols. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Thorne serves on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board (SAB) and is current Chair of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Toxicology. He is also a member of the Health Effects Institute Energy Research Board. He received his MS in biomedical engineering and PhD in toxicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and did his postdoctoral studies in immunotoxicology at the University of Pittsburgh.
