We are pleased to invite the campus community and colleagues to Wayne State University’s Integrative Environmental Health Sciences Seminar Series. The series is hosted by Wayne State’s CURES P30ES036084 Environmental Health Sciences Core Center and the CLEAR P42 Superfund Research Program.

The guest speaker will be Abby Hendershott, executive director of the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team. She will present, "A Michigan Perspective on PFAS Challenges and Progress."

Since 2017, the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team, MPART has led the way for development of strategic collaboration across the state government for PFAS investigations and monitoring. This presentation will focus on Michigan’s progress in monitoring PFAS occurrences in the state as well as the many challenges associated with PFAS. Specifically, working across multiple state, federal and local governments as well as reaching communities to increase awareness and provide general education and resources, while the PFAS science and research continues to develop.

Biography:

Abigail (Abby) Hendershott, a 32 -year veteran of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), is the executive director of the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team. MPART is a multi-agency task force charged with investigating PFAS contamination, overseeing clean-up and other response activities aimed at protecting Michigan’s drinking water.

Hendershott has focused on PFAS response activities since 2017 and led the team responsible for Michigan’s largest PFAS contamination response to-date, the investigation into the former Wolverine Worldwide tannery in Rockford.

Hendershott has a B.S. in Resource Development from Michigan State University and is a graduate of the Michigan State Great Lakes Leadership Academy.
