Technological Innovations in Dementia Care: Enhancing Lives and Enabling Independence - Dr. Maureen Mickus
Dr. Mickus is a facultymember at the College of Health and Human Services in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Western Michigan University. She also sits on the board of directors of the Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter.

10:15-11:30 am: Caregiving Challenges in Alzheimer’s Care in the African American Community - Dr. Florence Johnson

Dr. Johnson is a highly experienced nursing professional who holds many degrees, certificates and licenses. She has worked as an instruc- tor at the collegiate level, as a Director of Quality and as a consultant. Her work in research and leadership has received many honors and awards.

11:30-12:00 pm: And The Journey Continues - Jim Mangi, PhD
Mr. Mangi is a retired business owner and environmental scientist. He presents educational talks throughout Southeast Michigan. In his talk “Alzheimer’s: It’s a Disease Not a Disgrace,” he shares his journey caregiving for his wife since 2008., information on Alzheimer’s disease, other dementias and how to navigate the diagnoses through the stages.
