SAFE: Understanding Finacial Exploitation Vulnerability
SAFE Program is pleased to present:
This month's Financial First Friday: Understanding Financial Exploitation Vulnerability
by
Peter A. Lichtenberg, PhD, ABPP, Institute of Gerontology, WSU Distinguished Service Professor of Psychology
Peter A. Lichtenberg, Ph.D. is the past Director of the Institute of Gerontology (1999-2024) and was the Founding Director of the Wayne State University Lifespan Alliance. Dr. Lichtenberg is a clinical psychologist and a national expert in financial capacity assessment and financial exploitation of older adults. He is particularly interested in the area of intersection between financial capacity and financial exploitation; finding ways to balance autonomy and protection for older adults.
Join us as Dr. Lichtenberg discusses his recent work on Financial Exploitation Vulnerability. Dr. Lichtenberg's Older Adult Nest Egg (OANE) website features a 17-item scale created to assess an individual's level of vulnerability. Participants will be educated on the tool and how to access the free site to assess their level of financial exploitation vulnerability. Dr. Lichtenberg has also recently created a new program to prevent financial exploitation centered on addressing vulnerability. He will share information on the program, how to volunteer to participate in a pilot study, and early results from a newly published paper on the program.
