All are welcome to attend the dedication of the ACS National Historic Chemical Landmark honoring Dr. Bettye Washington Greene, the first Black American female Ph.D. chemist to be hired by The Dow Chemical Company and alumna of the Wayne State University Department of Chemistry. Dr. Bettye Washington Greene was a leader in the field of polymer chemistry and had a long and successful career at Dow Chemical. 

The dedication of the ACS National Historic Chemical Landmark will be preceded by the Second Annual Bettye Washington Greene Endowed Memorial Lectureship, featuring Dr. Dorothy J. Phillips as the keynote speaker. Dr. Dorothy J. Phillips was employed by Dow Chemical Company from 1974 to 1984 and by the Waters Corporation from 1984 to 2013 where she was involved with both research development and business management. She was elected to serve three terms on the Board of Directors for the American Chemical Society.

The symposium will be followed by a screening of a short film about Dr. Washington Greene's life and contributions to science.
