A Conference hosted by Wayne State University in collaboration with the Program Committee of the Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present.

ASAP/5 welcomes speakers who explore the persistent, yet complex interrelations and interactions between art, artists, and the city. More specifically, participants interrogate the common association of contemporary urban space with destruction, dispersal, and decay, and, simultaneously, of metropolitanism with innovation, creativity, and the visionary production of possible futures. How do the various arts form, and transform cities in their national and transnational permutations? And how do cities, in their turn, produce, create, and change traditional and emergent art practices and theories?

Keynote Speakers

Jace Clayton, aka, DJ Rupture / Writer and Musician
Nicholas Mirzoeff / Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication, New York University
