The offices of the Vice President for Research, Provost and Faculty Affairs (School of Medicine) are pleased to offer the Research and Academic Development seminar series for WSU faculty, chairs & directors, postdoctoral trainees & graduate students, and administrators.  Seminars are free but registration is required.

This seminar, Promotion & Tenure at WSU:  Policies and Advice, will take place Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at 5057 Woodward, 6th Floor, Conference Room A.

The moderator will be Boris Baltes, associate provost for Faculty Affairs.

Presenters will include: Ratna Naik, associate dean for Academic Personnel & Faculty Affairs, College of Liberal Arts, Toni Somers, associate dean for Faculty Affairs, Mike Ilitch School of Business, Matthew Allen, chair, Department of Chemistry, Jorge Chinea, professor and academic director of the Center for Latino/a & Latin American Studies, and Harini Sundararaghavan, associate professor of Biomedical Engineering.

Topics typically covered include: 

  • AAUP  contract guidelines for Promotion & Tenure; departmental and college guidelines.
  • P&T process & preparing the case:  external reviews & the role of the candidate; professional record; personal statement
  • The P&T Review Process from department review through university review
  • Importance of mentoring with the right mentor
  • Where  to go for help and advice:  expectations on teaching, research and grants, and service

Note that this seminar will have an emphasis on P&T for non-medical disciplines.  A second P&T seminar (with emphasis on the medical sciences) is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29th, 2019, 1:00 p.m. –2:30 p.m., in the Margherio Conference Center on the medical campus.  Faculty who cannot attend their preferred seminar are encouraged to attend the other as both present valuable general information for all disciplines.
