Director of Religious Studies and Philosophy faculty member Sean Stidd will deliver a lecture, "The Cardinal Virtues: A Brief Intellectual History".

Abstract: From the philosopher Plato down to the Freemasons and the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, the idea that the four virtues of Wisdom, Courage, Temperance, and Justice are especially central to human moral life has been a shaping force in Western thought. This paper will ask whether we can discern any unity to these virtues across their different manifestations in distinct historical and religious contexts
