This exhibit surveys work Jeffrey Abt produced during his time as a professor in the Duffy Department of Art and Art History, Wayne State University, from 1989 to his retirement in 2019.

Elaine L. Jacob Gallery

Exhibition: THIS LAND IS…

THIS LAND IS…features works created through a wide variety of disciplines by artists who address current and future environmental concerns. The artists confront political, cultural, and social ecological changes by observing sentimental landmarks and documenting their importance. This exhibition was curated by Jennifer Belair Sakarian and includes works by the following artists: David Buckley Borden and Casey Keenan, Sophie-Madeleine Jaillet, Sarah Anne Johnson, and Margaret Laurena Kemp in collaboration with Gina Kalabishis.

Graduate Open Studio Event
Time: 5-8 p.m.

MA and MFA students in the James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History will be hosting an open studio event adjacent to the Elaine L. Jacob gallery. Students will have their studios open to the public and work on display. There will be opportunities to talk with the artists and participate in hands-on art activities.

Gallery Learning Community: Holiday Workshop
Time: 3-8 p.m.

Bring thoughts of joy with the Gallery Learning Community on Noel Night! Kids from one to ninety-two will have the chance to finger paint fun filled holiday cards with festive lights, snowmen, or Santa Clause for commemorative keepsakes or gifts. Painting isn’t your fancy? Create a festive garland with the use of paint chips and colored paper. 

Winter Art and Retail Market
Woodward and Warren Park between Cass and Woodward Ave.
1-7 p.m.

The Winter Art and Retail Market (WARM) is a fun and festive pop-up holiday marketplace that will be located in Wayne State University’s Woodward and Warren Park. The marketplace will feature limited-edition items and one-of-a-king objects from more than 50 local businesses and artists. The WARM is a collaboration between Wayne State’s Office of Economic Development, James Pearson Duffy Department of Art and Art History and TechTown Detroit.


Musical Instrument Petting Zoo
Old Main - Large Ensemble Rehearsal, Room 2402

Join WSU Music Education students on Noel Night and adventure into the world of music making with our Instrument Petting Zoo! You will have the chance to try out one or more of the following musical instruments: flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, and cello. People of all ages are welcome to develop a love for making music!

Department of Music Showcase: Sounds of the Season
Schaver Music Recital Hall - Old Main

Join music students, faculty and alumni from the Department of Music for an evening of festive sounds that are sure to get you and your family into the holiday spirit. Warm up in Schaver Music Recital Hall with dazzling performances featuring Jazz Ensembles, the Women’s Chorale, Men’s Glee Club and the University Chamber Orchestra.

This holiday season join Ebenezer Scrooge on a ghostly adventure in Dickens’ classic story. When his former business partner, now deceased, visits the miserly old Scrooge, he begins a journey into the past, present and future to learn the true meaning of Christmas. Will the old codger redeem himself? Can the spirits inspire him to a greater purpose? Find out this Christmas at the Bonstelle Theatre.
