I Wish to Say... Alumni Collaboration Event - U-M / Wayne State
This event is in the past.
The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan and the Wayne State University Alumni Association have partnered with the University of Michigan Democracy & Debate Theme Semester in collaboration with Stamps Gallery, Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design and Artist, Sheryl Oring, Chair of Wayne State University Department of Art & Art History, to bring you a unique opportunity to participate in an amazing project.
In her project, I Wish to Say, Oring invites the Alumni from U-M and Wayne State University to dictate your thoughts about national events and hopes for our nation's future to the next president of the United States, with students from both schools typing the notes on vintage typewriters. These interactions for our Alumni will be staged as virtual performances via Zoom on Sunday October 4, 2020 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The typed postcards, which will be mailed directly to the White House on the participant’s behalf, will inform an exhibit of Oring’s work curated by Stamps Gallery.
“This is an opportunity for our communities to speak out as we face a critical presidential election. I want to give people in Michigan a chance to record their views at this extraordinary point in history when the state has faced such tremendous challenges stemming from the pandemic while also grappling with the impact of systemic racism.” Sheryl Oring
