The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to host the workshop: Fellowship and Grant Proposal Writing in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
This workshop is ONLY open to WSU faculty and current postdoctoral & graduate trainees.

This Webinar will be highly interactive.
Led by Dr. Arthur F. Marotti, Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus at Wayne State University, draft proposals submitted by YOU, the participant, will be reviewed and discussed. This is a valuable real-time feedback tool to improve your proposal before it is submitted for external funding. Dr. Marotti also generously offers his continued proposal-preparation guidance to attendees of the workshop.
What is Needed from YOU for a Successful Workshop
Since the workshop will be dedicated to discussing participant draft proposals and scrutinizing examples of successfully funded proposals, a sufficient number of drafts from participants must be obtained. Here are 3 steps you can take to help make this workshop a success:
1. Identify a funding opportunity that would be a good fit for your project.
Option: Wayne State faculty and trainees are welcome to use the funding search platform, PIVOT***, free of charge. The Pivot database contains external funding opportunities from many federal, state and private sources for all disciplines and types of projects. You can sign up for PIVOT using your WSU email or AccessID by clicking here and begin searching now!
Option: Utilize additional support services for identifying and interpreting external funding opportunities and preparing proposals, such as Julie Burtch or Gayle Foley in Foundation Relations, Research Services in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, or Julie Osburn in the College of Education.
Option: You can also go directly to websites of key sponsors for your discipline, such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation’s Social, Behavioral & Economic Sciences (SBE) Division, and American Library Association.
2. Prepare your draft according to the guidelines provided by the sponsor.
3. Send your draft proposal to firstname.lastname@example.org not later than October 5th.
You will receive a week in advance of the workshop: a copy of the draft proposals received from participants and a copy of select successfully funded proposals. Review these proposals and come prepared to discuss them with your colleagues and Dr. Marotti.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT FOR THIS WORKSHOP:
A sufficient number of registrants are needed to submit draft proposals for discussion at the workshop. Without these, this workshop may be cancelled, so PLEASE MAKE YOUR DRAFT AMONG THOSE RECEIVED!

Arthur F. Marotti is Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus at Wayne State University. Dr. Marotti is the recipient of research fellowships from The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (1975-76), The American Council of Learned Societies (1988-89), and The National Endowment for the Humanities (2000 and 2005-6). In addition, he has been co-Principal Investigator on two federal grants (2002-7, 2007-10) from the Department of Education to fund bilateral exchanges of students and faculty with Brazilian universities.
