Lunches with Leaders is an Honors College luncheon series for students featuring conversations with faculty and community leaders.

Please join the Irvin D. Reid Honors College for a special Lunches with Leaders event with Dr. Irvin D. Reid, president emeritus of Wayne State University and the Honors College’s namesake.

Dr. Reid will share reflections on his fascinating life, from humble beginnings in a two-room schoolhouse for African Americans in segregated South Carolina, to multiple university presidencies, to recent success with his highly acclaimed documentary, African Democracy: Hopes and Challenges

Dr. Reid served as Wayne State University's ninth president from November 1997 to August 1, 2008. Under his leadership, Wayne State completed hundreds of millions of dollars in new construction, including a major expansion of the Law School complex, three residence halls, the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center, and the Welcome Center Complex. He also initiated the creation of TechTown, a 43- acre technology park adjacent to the Wayne State campus, and elevated the University Honors Program to an Honors College, which was later named in his honor.

Dr. Reid holds masters and PhD degrees in business and applied economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from Howard University. He is married to Pamela Trotman Reid, president emerita of the University of Saint Joseph Connecticut and Senior Scholar at Wayne State University.
