Ethernet as a communication technology has established itself as the de-facto standard in multiple industries. The introduction to the automotive world, to what is today known as Automotive Ethernet (IEEE 100BASE-T1, 1000BASE-T1 and others under development) traces its roots back to Munich, Germany in 2008. In this talk, the motivation and advantages of using Automotive Ethernet for OEMs will be highlighted, as well as the differences towards other IVN (in-vehicle-network) technologies. Understanding of communication systems is key for the successful deployment of modern car E/E architectures. At Technica Engineering, we’ve played a key role in the introduction, deployment and especially, test and validation of Automotive Ethernet systems and its inevitable conjunction with other IVN technologies. Some of our most important experiences will be shared and we’ll present the state-of-the art hardware and software solutions for a successful deployment of this technology.
Erick Parra studied Sensor System Technology at the University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe and later Management of Product Development at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. After working 4 years as a Lead Development Engineer of Automation Software in the Plasma Surface Engineering Industry, he shifted to the Automotive Industry in 2013, working as a Continental Automotive Resident Engineer at BMW for the first generation of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) using Automotive Ethernet (BroadR-Reach™, now IEEE 100BASE-T1 and SOME/IP). Since 2015, Erick Parra joined Technica Engineering, initially as Ethernet Team Leader, and since 2017, he holds the position of Head of Business Development. Erick Parra leads the Business Development Team, which coordinates and executes Technica’s Pre-Sales, Sales and After-Sales activities worldwide. He is also one of the Ethernet Trainers at Technica Engineering.
