Please join us for a showcase featuring the capstone research projects of students completing the minor in Latino/a and Latin American Studies. Our students spent the winter 2021 term immersed in a service-learning experience at the Mercy Education Project and Peer Health Exchange. Specifically, they facilitated lessons on health in Spanish and English to students at Cesar Chavez Academy Middle School (through Peer Health Exchange) and activities on STEM and mental health for young girls in Detroit (through Mercy Education Project).

Students teams will present research projects where they contextualize their experience and site placement within a larger community framework, examining the needs of the populations being served, implications of current service-delivery models, and ideas for how students can help address community challenges as professionals in their respective fields.

Sponsored by Ford Community Corps and the WSU Learning Communities Office.

About our partner organizations:
Mercy Education Project provides services for educational equity, economic stability, and mobility; as well as, cultural enrichment for women and girls who have limited access to resources. Mercy Education Project empowers and supports our students as they work towards a brighter future.
Peer Health Exchange's mission is to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions. We do this by training college students to teach a skills-based health curriculum in under-resourced high schools across the country.
