David J. Morin

Dave is a serial entrepreneur, executive and startup consultant.  He has co-founded multiple software companies including Cielo MedSolutions, a population health management technology firm, Impellia, a human performance data analytics company and Mountain Pass Solutions, a provider of workflow and information management solutions for university and health system human resource functions.  He is an advisor to Reaction Technologies, a provider of athletic safety and performance training tools.

Dave specializes in the commercialization of technologies developed in a university or research setting.  As an example, Cielo MedSolutions’ product, Cielo Clinic, was based on the intellectual property developed through NIH-funded physician research at a Southeast Michigan university. Over its life at Cielo MedSolutions, the software supported over 2 million patient encounters and was recognized by various national organizations for its support of primary care medicine. Cielo was awarded a Phase II STTR by the National Cancer Institute with a perfect score (10) on its application. Cielo MedSolutions grew by at least 100% in each year of its existence, maintained a customer renewal rate of greater than 98%, operated profitably and was acquired by The Advisory Board Company in early 2011.

Through his consulting firm, Care Technology Advisors, Dave provides advisory services to technology organizations, universities and researchers.  Recent projects have included the founding of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine’s internal organization to support its faculty on innovation and the dissemination of research-funded healthcare software solutions into the clinical market, the development of a strategy to commercialize a wide-range of digital health technologies for a Michigan-based University, the support of health care delivery organizations in establishing digital health strategies and the advisement of early-stage firms on go-to-market strategies.

Dave is the chairperson of Samaritas, one of Michigan’s largest nonprofit health and human services agencies that serves over 20,000 people statewide through programs such as family preservation, foster care, refugee resettlement, homeless transitional housing, independent and assisted senior living and skilled nursing, memory and rehabilitation care. He is currently on the board of AlertWatch, a software company providing real-time integrated patient monitoring software for operating rooms, ICUs, labor and delivery, MichBio, a non-profit focused on advocacy and resources for the Michigan bioindustry, and a founding member of MedHealth, a Michigan-based regional collaboration of healthcare stakeholders.
