Objectives:

1.  Discuss the limitations of traditional antidepressants for treatment-resistant forms of depression.

2.  Present the logic of testing ketamine for depression and the results of

clinical trials.

3.  Review theories related to the mechanisms underlying the antidepressant effects of ketamine in animals and patients.
