Virtual Dance Collaboratory concert - "Suspended Reality | Almost a Dream"
This event is in the past.
Suspended Reality | Almost a Dream is the company’s debut, in-person concert performance and will be a hybrid experience of both live dance and projected media. In this show, students process the return to in-person learning, and share vulnerable glimpses into moments, memories, and meanings of their own experiences. These moments are brought into the present space to understand and grow together as a collective.
The Virtual Dance Collaboratory (VDC) was created in 2020 to give students a creative space to process, dialogue, and craft digital media dance work about, in, and of the present moment. This year, dance students collaborated with fashion design and visual design students to expand beyond dance and digital media practices to co-create a truly interdisciplinary, collaborative production. In addition to supporting student work, VDC experienced a guest artist residency with Phoenix-based screendance artist Lawrence Fung. Fung is the founder and artist director of Kraken Still and Film. During the residency, students learned how to generate professional screendance both in front of and behind the camera. Fung’s work Trinity, will be debuting at Suspended Reality | Almost a Dream, along with four student-led projects.
