Your attendance is requested for the upcoming Education Partner Convening on Fri, April 22, 2022, from 9 am - 12 pm ET. The Detroit Continuum of Care (CoC) is the recipient of $5.6 million by the Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on behalf of the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) to address unaccompanied youth and young adult homelessness, including pregnant and parenting young people through ages 24. Detroit is partnering with the National Center for Homeless Education, the U.S. Department of Education’s federal homeless education technical assistance center to ensure education is included in the Detroit CoC’s plan for addressing youth and young adult homelessness. NCHE, Wayne Metro, and Wayne State University’s College of Education are hosting the convening. The convening will take place at Wayne State University, with a virtual attendance option. On campus meeting location and parking information to follow in the coming weeks.

What will the meeting be about?

This convening is an opportunity to bring together education and housing partners for building connections and partnerships for improving the identification of and referrals to education and housing services for youth and young adults, including pregnant and parenting young people, who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Representatives from the Michigan State Department of Education will also be joining us. We will provide a brief overview of the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) and share the request for proposal application process for educators that wish to apply for YHDP funding.

Why participate?

Education is a partner and a pathway to supporting youth and young adults with making sustainable exits from homelessness. We know that systems working together will have a larger impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness/housing instability.

What next?
