The Emergency: Dr. Tom Fisher in Conversation with Dr. Sonia Hassan
This event is in the past.
Don't miss Dr. Tom Fisher in conversation with WSU's Sonia Hassan, M.D., professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology on "The Emergency."
As an emergency room doctor working on the rapid evaluation unit, Dr. Fisher has about three minutes to spend with the patients who come into the South Side of Chicago ward where he works before directing them to the next stage of their care. Bleeding: three minutes. Untreated wound that becomes life-threatening: three minutes. Kidney failure: three minutes.
A Chicago native, Thomas Fisher also writes of his strong ties to Detroit -- his mother was raised on the northwest side of Detroit, and as a child he often visit his grandmother and Uncle Robert, a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools.
With the rare dual perspective of somebody who also has his hands deep in policy work, Dr. Fisher connects these human stories to the sometimes-cruel machinery of care. Join us on for an unmissable event that includes a selected reading, Q&A, and book signing.
