You are not alone: The lived experience of correction officers
This event is in the past.
The Michigan Reentry Program (MIREP) is proud to offer a lunch and learn for those working in corrections to discuss how this work can have a personal impact. Dr. Carolyn Sutherby has nearly 25 years of clinical experience working with systems and individuals. She will be leading an open, relaxed conversation about the complexities of working in structured, safety-focused, and often traumatic environments with individuals who have significant behavioral health needs.
The session aims to:
- Help unpack the overwhelming information available about trauma and stress.
- Share tangible techniques that can be used in the moment on the job if triggered.
- Share some of the lived experiences of others working in corrections.
- Impart knowledge regarding who and where is safe to seek assistance.
Participants walk away with real resources and tools that can contribute to a better quality of life as you work to continue serving the safety needs of your community.
