MedFlix, Plant-based Nutrition Group and Physicians for Social Responsibility: The Game Changers
This event is in the past.
The Plant Based Nutrition Group, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and MedFlix: Movies in Medical Education invite all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to a screening of
The Game Changers
Throughout the western world, our perspective on nutrition is changing. Plant based diets are increasingly being adopted as scientific experts continue to confirm the risks of meat products on our bodies and the environment. Nowhere is that change in perspective more evident than in the world of athletics.
The Game Changers documents a group of high-performance athletes who have adopted plant-based diets. These individuals push their bodies to the limits and believe their unique nutrition has been pivotal in their success. The film explores these athletes’ personal stories while providing viewpoints from scientific and medical experts.
Since its release, The Game Changers has received a substantial amount of support and criticism from the medical community. Viewing and discussing this film presents an opportunity for medical students to learn more about the nutritional and environmental benefits of plant-based diets while also scrutinizing the methods used by popular media to communicate nuanced scientific findings to the general public.
Following the film, participants will engage in a group discussion facilitated by The Plant Based Nutrition Group, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and MedFlix. This will be a safe and open forum for attendees to dive into the themes and information presented in the film. Plant based food and beverages will be provided during the screening.
Full participation is required for Wayne Med students to qualify for 2 Clinical Service-Learning hours.
