La Tules lived in Santa Fe on the eve of American occupation of the Mexican Southwest. She ran a casino when women were not supposed to  engage in gambling. She was a rough, tough, and wealthy woman, wielding significant influence in Santa Fe. Dr. Esquivel-King will argue that she represents the intersection of American and Mexican culture.

Enjoy free coffee and Mexican pastries as Dr. Reyna Esquivel-King offers her presentation during Hispanic Heritage Month. All Wayne State students are welcome!

Sponsored by the Center for Student Global Engagement, the Global Café is a bi-weekly event featuring food, global presentations and activities. Students and student groups are encouraged to submit proposals for presentations or activities by contacting Katie Franklin at hn5398@wayne.edu
