The WSU Humanities Center invites faculty, students, staff, and the community to a Brown Bag talk given by John Brender (Director of Special Initiatives for the Office of International Programs) on the topic of "Millennial Expats in China: Experiences and Observations"

Abstract: From his book, Millennial Expats in China, John Brender conducted extensive interviews with 20 diverse, North American millennials, who had lived in China for an average of four to six years. He examined both their personal experiences as well as their observations about Chinese families, education, courtship, and the roles of men and women. In this presentation, however, Dr. Brender will focus principally on the personal experiences of millennial expats in China, most notably how they described their prior, first, and maturing impressions of the P.R.C., their personal changes as a result of living in China. and finally, how as expats, they came to view other expats living in the Middle Kingdom
