Museum of Anthropology Gallery Talk: West African Textiles
This event is in the past.
Please join Dr. Karen Dimache Davis in the Gordon L. Grosscup Museum of Anthropology for a guided talk and tour of her West African Textile Collection.
Dr. Davis has spent much of her career as an anthropologist collecting textiles produced and used in West Africa. This has included interviews and participant observation with weavers, tailors and textile artists in Senegal and Benin. A portion of her collection is currently on exhibit at the Gordon L. Grosscup Museum of Anthropology in the exhibit Talking Textiles: Fiber Arts from West Africa.
During this gallery talk Dr. Davis will walk visitors through the exhibition and share information about the material on exhibit along with the artisans who made them. Dr. Davis enjoys an interactive talk and will be happy to take questions throughout the tour and discussion.
Dr. Karen Dimache Davis is an Anthropologist and an alumna of Wayne State. She currently teaches for the Department of Anthropology at Wayne State.
