On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from noon to 1:30pm, we are hosting an online panel of legal experts to discuss how federal courts are shaping the ability of Congress to investigate issues and obtain information.  The panel will delve into cases decided from 2021 to 2022, discussing the emerging case law affecting such issues as whether the Speech and Debate clause bars suits challenging congressional subpoenas, Congress’ authority to subpoena tax return information, the impact of executive and common law privileges on congressional inquiries, and the rejuvenation of contempt of Congress prosecutions.

Panelists:

  • Doug Letter, Former General Counsel, U.S. House of Representatives
  • Emily Berman, Professor of Law, Houston University Law Center
  • Will Ortman, Associate Professor of Law & Edward M. Wise Research Scholar, Wayne State University Law School
  • Andy Grewal, Professor of Law, Iowa College of Law

The Zoom Webinar will be livestreamed to classroom 1545 - all students, faculty, and members of staff are welcome to join in-person. Lunch boxes will be provided.
