Yang-Baxter Equation and Some Related Algebraic Structures

Abstract

By Mohamed Elhamdadi

We will introduce some set-theoretic solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation such as quandles and their kin (racks and biquandles). We'll discuss their cohomologies and show how low-dimensional cocycles give invariants of links. The talk will be self-contained and thus accessible to students.
