When:
March 27, 2025
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Event category: Panel/Discussion
In-person

Please join the Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs and the Michigan Labor History Society at 6 p.m. on on Thursday, March 27 for a discussion about the new biography entitled, "Roy Reuther and the UAW: Fighting for Workers and Civil Rights.

The author, Alan Reuther, will discuss the legacy of his father, Roy Reuther, who was a key figure in the historic Flint sit-down strike that helped give birth to the UAW. Roy went on to become the political director of the UAW, and was deeply involved in struggles to pass civil rights legislation, to expand voter participation, and to help downtrodden farmworkers.

As the Reuther Library celebrates its 50th anniversary, Dean paul Bracke also will talk about its role providing assistance for research on labor history. And because many of the injustices that Roy Reuther fought continue to plague America today, UAW president Shawn Fain will cap off the evening by discussing how the new biography of Roy Reuther provides important context for many of the ongoing struggles in America today.
