Research Development Seminar: Graphics for Proposals and Research Visualization
1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to offer the Research Development seminar series for WSU faculty, chairs & directors, postdoctoral trainees & graduate students, and administrators. Seminars are free but registration is required.
Description: Researchers are often focused on whether a proposal’s written content is clear and compelling to a reviewer. The research support team can provide editing and other refinement to make sure the intended message is clear. What do we know about creating good figures for proposals and manuscripts? This webinar will outline advice research development professionals may give investigators to create better visuals that enhance the overall message of a proposal or manuscript. We’ll cover quick tips as well as highlight current research in effective visualizations.
Presenter: Jessica Brassard is the Director of Research Development and Communications at Michigan Technological University. In this role, she creates visuals for high-impact/high-value research proposals, supports science communication for research, enables teams of faculty forming around research initiatives, and designs faculty development events and workshops.
Jess has a background in fine art, design, and marketing and transitioned to research development in 2015. The transition to research development has been a welcome change to offer support that makes a real impact. She’s always on the lookout for opportunities to use her visual design skills to amplify research ideas. Jess works with research faculty on figures, illustrations, and other visualizations.
Host: Rachel Wallace, PhD, Assistant Vice President for Research Development, OVPR
