The Office of the Vice President for Research is pleased to offer an interactive research webinar specifically for the Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities on Friday, February 17^th, 2023 10:00 am to noon:  Grant Writing for the Social Sciences and Humanities has two objectives.

• To present during the webinar important tips and guidance toward creating a successful proposal.  This will include understanding various proposal components and the level of excellence expected in typical proposals intended for different funding sources.  Attendees will also be expected to critique various sample proposals.
• To initiate the drafting of actual proposals.  Ideally, faculty attendees of this workshop will prepare an actual proposal for submission in the coming year.  Those who do so will become a cohort who will be expected [along with the speakers] to support each other by critiquing one another’s first draft proposals.  Faculty who commit to preparing a grant proposal for 2023 will receive continued guidance and mentoring from the speakers up until the grant is submitted.

This workshop is ONLY open to WSU faculty and, if space allows, current postdoctoral & graduate trainees.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED (use must use your WSU AccessID to register) and SPACE IS LIMITED.  If the participant limit is met, contact the OVPR (email below) to be wait listed.

Dr. Noa Ofen, Associate Professor of Psychology, Wayne State University

About the Presenters:

Arthur F. Marotti is Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus at Wayne State University. Dr. Marotti is the recipient of research fellowships from The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (1975-76), The American Council of Learned Societies (1988-89), and The National Endowment for the Humanities (2000 and 2005-6). In addition, he has been co-Principal Investigator on two federal grants (2002-7, 2007-10) from the Department of Education to fund bilateral exchanges of students and faculty with Brazilian universities. 

Noa Ofen is Associate Professor of Psychology and a member of the Institute of Gerontology and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute. She also is a faculty of the Translational Neuroscience Program and area Chair for Behavioral Cognitive Neuroscience. She is currently funded by the NIH for the study of Development of Memory Networks in Children [MH107512], has more than 43 peer reviewed publications, ~56 invited talks, and ~47 conference presentations. She was selected as a Kavli Frontiers of Science Fellow by the National Academy of Science (2014), has been an elected member of the Memory Disorders Research Society (since 2017), and was awarded Career Development Chair from Wayne State University (2021).
