The Division of Research & Innovation (DORI) is pleased to announce the Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences Research SupportPrograms for the 2024-2025 academic year. These competitive grants provide funding for research, creative projects, and scholarships in social science, arts, design, and/or humanities.

An informational meeting about both programs will be held via Zoom on October 9, 2024 from 12 noon to 1 p.m.  to allow those interested in applying to share project ideas and ask questions about the review process. Potential applicants are highly encouraged to attend. To register for the informational meeting, please RSVP above.

Awarded project budgets will be funded up to $15,000 and will lay the foundation for further work beyond the award end date. Funds can be used to support research personnel, materials/equipment, archive access, travel, conferences, and course load release (with dean/chair approval). These awards are intended to provide support in preparing arts, humanities, and social sciences faculty to pursue extramural funding, such as a fellowship award, commission, or grant to continue or expand the project.

Examples of eligible research includes, but is not limited to, projects that:

  • Advance basic knowledge in the respective arts, humanities, and/or social sciences
  • Promote new knowledge, bridge disciplines, and/or address important social and cultural issues
  • Extend the reach of creative projects to underserved populations and investigate issues of concern to the community
  • Transform cultural, economic, or social attitudes and expectations
  • Involve non‐traditional visual, multimodal, and print media
  • Document and/or preserve important works of art and culture
  • Support creative activity
  • Advance the use of technology in arts, humanities, and/or social sciences
  • Develop relevant leadership and entrepreneurship in arts, design, or the humanities
  • Examine or impact new developments in popular culture, new media, and/or entertainment
  • Make connections between social sciences, arts, design, and/or humanities and other disciplines or interdisciplinary fields

Eligibility: The project applicant, or lead PI from a collaborative team, must be a full-time tenured or tenure track faculty member conducting research in arts and humanities, and/or social sciences. Faculty with projects that align with the programs’ missions are invited from all WSU Schools and Colleges. Faculty members may apply at all stages of their careers.
