On May 8, the Cardiovascular Research Institute will host its second WSU-wide career development event focused on career options and opportunities in the cardiovascular sciences.

To address the second theme – Careers at the NIH – the CVRI has invited two distinguished cardiovascular scientists:

Li-Shin Huang, Ph.D., program director, Office of Research Training and Career Development, Division of Cardiovascular Sciences, NHLBI. In 2015, Dr. Huang made the transition from a productive career in academia to an administrative position at the NHLBI, where she manages a large portfolio of grants that focus on research training related to cardiovascular sciences.

Tish Murphy, Ph.D., Head of the Cardiac Physiology Section, Systems Biology Center, NHLBI. Dr. Tish is an intramural scientist who has achieved international recognition for her seminal discoveries on the molecular mechanisms involved in cardiomyocyte death, and gender differences in the response of the heart to ischemia-reperfusion.

All faculty, staff and trainees are welcome and encouraged to attend the joint seminar presented by Drs. Huang and Murphy, in which they will share their unique career perspectives. The seminar will be followed by an interactive round-table discussion and lunch for trainees only.
