Dr. Nadia Saadat is a Postdoctoral Training/Teaching Fellow with ReBUILDetroit program which is the part of NIH BUILD (Building Infrastructure leading to diversity) initiative. She is doing research at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences and teaching Research Methods in Health Disparities at the University of Detroit Mercy. She earned her Medicine and Surgery degree (MBBS) from Dow Medical College Karachi, Pakistan. She continued her education and received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Nutrition and Cancer Biology from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. She received the Graduate Professional Scholarship during her M.S. program and was awarded the Parent Family Endowed Fellowship and Golden Key Research Grant during her Ph.D. research. As a Postdoctoral researcher she is interested in investigating the molecular mechanisms of chronic diseases and biomarker discovery for early diagnosis through comprehensive omic techniques. In her current research project, she is investigating biomarkers of preterm birth and effects of social and environmental stressors in African American pregnant women in metro Detroit community.

The title of her talk is “Mentoring 101 for Postdoctoral Scholars”

Due to the unique transient nature of the position, postdoctoral scholars play the role of a mentee and a mentor during their training. She is going to talk about what is effective mentorship and how to build a good mentor-mentee relationship.  She will also discuss addressing diversity in mentoring relationships.

 

2. Shariat Mobasser, PhD

Dr. Shariat Mobasser is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow in department of civil and environmental engineering at Wayne State University with Professor Dittrich. Her focus is studying the sorption properties of materials to remove hazardous volatile organic compounds gases infiltrating into basements from contaminated industrial sites. She received her PhD from National University of Malaysia (UKM) in Civil Engineering (Geo-Environmental Engineering). Before Wayne state University, she had a work experience at Michigan State University in the civil and environmental engineering department as a postdoctoral research scholar focusing on the detection of contaminants using different nano-sensors. She is really passionate and dedicated to achieve her research goal.

The title of her talk is “A brief review of selected materials in environmental pollution detection, monitoring, and remediation”

This Talk is about application of different material such as nano material ( MWNT, Nano Clay, Nano Alumina) and Activated Carbon and Zeolite in  Environmental Remediation.
