Wayne State students, faculty and staff - as well as members of the surrounding community - are invited to engage with WSU's Office of Federal TRIO as part of National TRIO Week in the month of February.

On the Road/Rally for TRIO - Tuesday, February 25, 2020

The Office of Federal TRIO will host their annual On the Road/Rally for TRIO, a meet-and-greet event at the Student Center Building, Hilberry E/F, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guests are invited to meet TRIO staff and learn more about the office's programs and initiatives.  "Travelers" (you) will receive a "passport" containing questions and information to obtain from each TRIO program - the "states." The goal is for travelers to visit each state" and answer the provided questions to earn a travel award at their final destination.

In addition, guests will be able to take part in the TRIO rally where Regional Representatives Terri Campbell (Detroit Office-Senator Debbie Stabenow), Corri Wofford (Detroit Office-Senator Gary Peters), State Representative Sherry Gay-Dagnogo and Wayne County Commissioner, Martha Scott and more will speak on civic engagement and community service along with student panelists who will share their experiences within TRIO.

Come, have fun, network and explore the world of TRIO! The event is free and refreshments will be served.

TRIO programs at WSU annually serve over 4,800 persons in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties who are low income and the first in their families to traverse the financial, intellectual and cultural changes associated with degree completion. "Our primary goal is to expose TRIO to staff, faculty and students while simultaneously increasing awareness among those who may be familiar with one program but unaware of the benefits provided through the other five WSU programs," said Henry Robinson, senior director of Federal TRIO programs. "We are also working to honor the rich history and legacy of WSU TRIO programs successfully paving the way to college success for thousands of honorably discharged veterans of the armed forces, mature adults and high school students since 1966."

WSU's Federal TRIO programs reflect the nation's commitment to providing educational opportunities for all Americans, regardless of race, ethnic background or economic circumstance. In support of this commitment, Congress and the State of Michigan established a series of programs to help low-income students enter college, graduate and succeed. TRIO programs and initiatives include The Educational Opportunity Center, McNair Scholars, Talent Search, Upward Bound and Veterans Upward Bound.
