WSU Alumni Week of Service: October 15-22, 2022

For one week annually in the fall, WSU alumni from around the country come together for one of our favorite happenings – Alumni Week of Service. This event is dedicated to showcasing the incredible ways that #WarriorsGiveBack.

Volunteering is easy when you choose something you love or are already involved in. Warriors are encouraged to think about the ways they already volunteer or to select projects that best fit their lifestyle and passions.

Alumni are also encouraged to think of new ways to give back independently, with other alumni, or through affinity groups or employers. Regardless of how, when, or where you volunteer, we want to celebrate as we join forces for the greater good this fall.

Friends of Palmer Park Beautification & Cleanup
Join us as we help the Friends of Palmer Park make the park more beautiful by cleaning up trash and plastic in the community.
Where: Palmer Park (1121 Merrill Plaisance St., Detroit, MI 48203)
When: Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 9a.m.-1p.m.

W Food Pantry & Warrior Wardrobe Donation Drive
Stop by the W Food Pantry to drop off food donations, gently used garments, and other resources to enhance student success.
Where: The W Food Pantry & Wardrobe (703 and 695 W Kirby, Detroit, MI 48202)
When: Saturday, October 15, 2022 or during the week of October 17th-21 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 7 p.m.

Burton International Academy Beatification Project & Needs Drive
Help create a more inviting space for students by painting walls and stenciling artwork throughout the academy.
Where: Burton International Academy (2001 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Detroit, MI 48208)
When: Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 8a.m.-12p.m.

Virtual Letters of Love for our Elders- Sponsored by Organization of Black Alumni
Help people feel loved by writing cards for the elderly in senior communities across the globe.

Seasonal Help with Keep Growing Detroit- Sponsored by School of Social Work
Lend a hand with seasonal tasks including planting, harvesting, and general farm maintenance.

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center Children Games- sponsored by School of Social Work
Come together for this fun and exciting project at the grand opening of this organization's new location.
Where: St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center (14061 Lappin, Detroit, MI 48207)
When: October 15, 2022 for any duration between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Security Items Donation Drive- Sponsored by School of Social Work
Drop off security item donations that can be used by survivors in escalated situations in order to help keep themselves and children safe.

Remotely engage with voters over the phone, offering voting resources, sharing opportunities to engage in community care, telling and listening to stories, and more.

CCSEM Basic Needs and Hygiene Donation Drive- Sponsored by School of Social Work
Drop off basic need and hygiene item donations at the CCSEM Center for the Works of Mercy to help serve its community.

Wherever you live, during the week of October 15 – 22 you are encouraged to make a difference in your community in whatever way you choose. Register your independent project so we can highlight your efforts as we share the WSU Alumni Week of Service stories.

Share photos showcasing the way you volunteer by mentioning @waynestatealum on Instagram and include #WarriorsGiveBack. Wayne State gear is welcomed and encouraged. The three best posts will be selected and winners will receive $50 gift cards during WOS.
