Join the Wayne State University School of Social Work for an insightful Continuing Education Workshop ideal for social workers, counselors, mental health professionals, and other human service providers who work with or are interested in working with the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) population.

This training, "Culturally Competent Care for the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Population in Healthcare Settings: A Social Work Perspective" will be led by Malak Kabalan, the Public Health Coordinator at Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services. This Continuing Education workshop is designed to equip social workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide culturally competent care to clients from the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) region. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the unique cultural, social, and historical contexts that shape the experiences of individuals and families from MENA communities. This workshop emphasizes practical strategies and real-life scenarios for enhancing cultural sensitivity and promoting inclusive practices in social work settings.

Malak Kabalan earned her MS in Global Health from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Currently, she works as a Public Health Coordinator in Southeast Michigan. She manages projects that address social determinants of health and barriers preventing underserved populations from accessing health and social services. Her work includes advocacy, policy, research, and program development relating to the Middle Eastern North African (MENA) population and health equity. Her experience has led her to develop expertise in navigating cultural dynamics and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including community members, healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers, to develop effective interventions that promote health equity and well-being.
