TOPIC: "Depression and the DSM: A Case Study on the History of Major Depressive Disorder"

Objectives:

1. Identify the factors underlying the birth of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) as well as the societal conditions that prompted early manual revisions. 

2.  Describe the rationale behind the creation of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). 

3.  Discuss how savvy clinicians can optimally diagnose Major Depressive Disorder.
