The Black Student Union (BSU) and the Social Justice Action Committee of Policing is hosting the Black & Blue against brutality Police Town Hall during Black Student Union week to discuss solutions and policy changes that best serve Black Lives.
This event is for people taking a stand against police brutality. We have invited students, police representatives and community members to participate in a conversation about how to right the wrongs of police brutality. The police representatives are to share what they are planning to continue and what they are going to change in terms of serving the community in the best way. The community representatives are to share their experiences, positive or negative, when interacting with the police. The academic representatives are to offer a historical and ideological framework for just and proper policing that benefits the Black community. Though it is an unfortunate need, we will also be discussing survival and police accountability game plans for encounters with rogue and racist police that we can use during this overall fight against systemic injustice.
We’re looking to talk solutions and speak in truth as we continue to demand justice for Black Lives. We welcome all who are willing to take a stand, join us and submit questions ahead of time.
We have invited Wayne State University Police Chief Tony Holt, Detroit Police Department Deputy Chief Todd Bettison, Dearborn Police Department Chief Ronald Haddad, Southfield Police Department Chief Elvin Barren, Wayne State University Police Officer, Lt. David Zarrieff, Dr. Ollie Johnson, chair-WSU Department of African American Studies to participate in the conversation alongside with student activist, Lloyd Simpson, and community activitist, Nakia-Renne Wallace as panelists.
Once you register, you will receive the Zoom link inviting you the event.
