Join us for a two-day institute on using local community-based archives to enhance K-12 student learning.

Expand the growing learning community and join experts from around the country to discuss the benefits and challenges of creating place-based, culturally relevant lessons for K-12 students. Enjoy a collaborative professional learning community comprised of teachers and archivists during sessions that feature archive-based curriculum units and plans created by project participants.

The institute will also feature a discussion about the archives lesson planning process with K-12 educators and a guided-tour of the Walter P. Reuther Library's Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs, home of the largest labor archives in the United States.

Details about the location and parking will be provided to registrants. All participants will receive free parking, catered breakfasts and lunches, and a free book. K-12 educators certified in the state of Michigan can earn up to eight (8) hours of SCECHs by participating in the institute.

This event is co-hosted by the Wayne State University College of Education and the Walter P. Reuther Library's Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs, with generous support from the National Archives and
Records Administration’s National Historical Publications and RecordsCommission and the Community  Foundation for Southeast Michigan.
