About ELEMENTS Hip-Hop Weekend: Experience the power of movement and storytelling as we celebrate the transformative impact of hip-hop on global culture. Immerse yourself in a vibrant atmosphere of creativity, connection, and shared passion for this phenomenon that has shaped and continues to influence communities worldwide. ELEMENTS Hip-Hop Weekend will feature new one-act plays based on iconic hip-hop/rap songs, open cyphers, a cash prize battle, VR / 360° film, dance performances & workshops, panel discussions and of course a block party – the way it all got started.

ELEMENTS builds ecosystems for communal well-being, individual responsibility, and commitment to the larger whole. The Festival brings us together through movement, theatre, music, food and hip hop culture at large for a profound experience of growth and enjoyment.

Day 1: Movement Culture Detroit (September 6th from  5-10pm)

Movement Culture Detroit, directed by BAIRA MVMNT PHILOSOPHY and Motor City Street Dance Academy, is a vibrant celebration of dance, diversity and individuality. During the early portion of the day, attendees are welcomed to participate in mini dance workshops spanning various styles, fostering unity among movers of all levels. Following the workshops, participants can enjoy local vendors before diving into an intimate panel discussion addressing dance's societal impact. The festival features cyphers, performances, and a cash prize battle, aiming to inspire and educate towards a future of inclusive dance communities.  Learn more at https://www.baira.co/mcd

September 7 Day 2: BRED Hip-Hop Theatre Festival (September 7th from 12pm- 10pm)

Through innovative storytelling, the BRED Hip-Hop Theatre Festival showcases the transformative power of hip-hop on and off the stage. The festival will premiere several new works inspired by iconic songs in hip-hop. These are the stories we know and love, re-imagined for the theatrical stage. Playwrights and production teams will collaborate to devise one-act plays during "16 Bars" (a new work development period taking place in the 16 days leading up to the festival).

The community is also invited to join BHHTF BLOCK PARTY. Outside the Hilberry Gateway, enjoy live hip-hop performances (DJs, rappers) by artists from around Detroit.

With a mission to engage student, community, and professional artists, the BRED Hip-Hop Theatre Festival is one-of-a-kind in the city of Detroit.
